The Eyrie Pinot Noir
The Eyrie Pinot Noir
Widely respected as producing the highest quality Pinot Noir, the MV6 clone (also known as Mothervine 6) is small bunched and has low crop potential, it does incredibly well in cool, wet climates. It produces wines that are balanced, complex and with rich aromatics and good consistency.
50% handpicked and then 50% whole bunch fermented, within multiple small batch ferments, creates added complexity and structure, while small batch ferments maintain precision and control, allowing for the true expression of the vineyard's unique terroir. Fermentation initiated with a mix of wild and cultured yeasts brings out a layered, nuanced character. A prolonged cold soak prior to fermentation maximizes the extraction of colour and flavour and skin/seed and bunch stem tannins. Aged for six months in 45% new French oak barrels.
The nose has aromas of cedar, spice and strawberry. The palate is long with notes of strawberry alongside spicy tannin structure from the stalk ferment and barrel aging. Acidity on the palate is well structured, a crisp finish from 100% natural acid.
